School Meals

Our catering staff work tirelessly to produce healthy, nutritious meals that are appealing to young children.  Following the introduction of Universal free School Meals in 2014, all of the children at Marsden Infant and Nursery School (Reception to Year 2)  will receive a Universal Free School Meal.

Special dietary requirements can be catered for, however the catering team require confirmation from a dietician or doctor as to anyspecific requirements a child may have.

Our Catering Team hold regular 'theme days' and from time to time invite parents in to school to have lunch with their child and sample the menu. We even have a lunchtime mascot, Munch the Dragon!

We do understand however, that some children may want to bring a packed lunch to school, so please inform the school office if your child would prefer this option.  However, upon starting school all children are encouraged to try our school meals and this forms part of their transition programme.

Free School Meals

Although children at our school qualify for a Universal Free School Meal, this should not deter parents in recept of certain benefits from applying to Kirklees Council for Free School Meals.  A successful application could also provide a child in school with free milk every day and financial support towards other extra-curricular activities.  This is because the Free School Meal benefit links to what is called the Pupil Premium.  Pupil Premium is vital additional funding to support eligible children.  The funding is available to you if you are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit (income no more than £7,400)
  • Income Support
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, but are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your income is less than £16,190.
  • Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit.·

Alternatively, our admin team will also be happy to support you with the application process.  Simply complete the document below and hand it in at the school office and we will be happy to complete the online application on your behalf.   To consent to the admin team making the application for you, please complete the form below and return it to the school office.
