Computing plays a vital role in our lives, particularly in current times where technologies are constantly changing and evolving. A sound knowledge and understanding computing enables and prepares pupils to be active participants in a world where work, and other activities, are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technology. It is our duty as educators to ensure all children have access to an education in which such technologies are available and skills are taught and practised to a high standard.

Computing Curriculum
In EYFS, pupils follow 'BarefootComputing'.
https://www.barefootcomputing.org/early-years-with-all-resources
They have created a range of enjoyable, free resources and activities based around computational thinking concepts and approaches. These help us to teach the pupils the necessary problem-solving skills needed for everyday life.

In KS1, we follow the NCCE 'Teach Computing' scheme of work.
It covers all aspects of the National Curriculum for KS1.
Pupils should be taught to:
- understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital devices; and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions
- create and debug simple programs
- use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs
- use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content
- recognise common uses of information technology beyond school
- use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.

Keeping Safe Online
In this increasingly digitised world, it has never been more important to keep children safe online. At Marsden Infant School, we do this in several ways. Children are taught from the time they begin at our school, how to keep themselves safe (in an age-appropriate manner) during Computing lessons, whole school events, and during assembly times.
We also have 'digital literacy' lessons in KS1 which engages learners to think critically, participate responsibly and take ownership of their digital lives.
