Special Educational Needs and Disabilities -School Offer

Marsden Infant and Nursery School is fully inclusive and welcomes all children with a wide range of Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND).

Inclusion lies at the heart of this school.” (Ofsted June 2024)

At Marsden Infant Nursery School, we are committed to providing the best possible environment for learning for each and every pupil. We value the abilities and achievements of all pupils and attach importance to inclusion of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, not only for the benefit of those learners but also for the benefit of all pupils, the school as a whole and the community. We ensure our children and their families are at the centre of everything we offer.

We recognise that pupils learn at different rates and that there are many factors affecting achievement, including ability, emotional state, age and maturity. We are particularly aware that maturity is a crucial factor in terms of readiness to learn for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

We understand that many pupils, at some time in their school career, may experience difficulties which affect their learning, and the school recognises that these may be long or short term. We recognise the importance of Early intervention and seek to ensure that gaps are reduced so that children remain on track. Marsden Infant and Nursery School aims to identify these needs as they arise and provide teaching and learning contexts, which enable every child to achieve to his or her full potential. In doing this, close partner - working with parents/carers we recognise as essential.

All children at Marsden Infant and Nursery School are supported to thrive and to achieve their potential, regardless of any SEND. All children access the curriculum at a level which challenges them to make progress across all areas of school life. Children identified as having SEND have the same access to high quality teaching and engaging learning environments as all other children in school and, in addition, will have a support plan which will outline their strengths and difficulties and ensure all staff in school are aware of the most appropriate teaching strategies to use to ensure the best progress possible is made. We encourage and support all children to strive to achieve their potential.

All teachers at Marsden Infant and Nursery School are teachers of children with SEND and as such provide high quality teaching which takes account of the particular individual needs of children with SEND within their classrooms. Where a child’s SEND is supported through an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) support staff are deployed to provide targeted support to children.

Our School has a Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) who is responsible for the management of provision and support for identified pupils with SEND.

Our SENDCo is Mrs Sarah Whitehouse.
