Marsden Infant & Nursery School

School Meals and School Milk

Our catering staff work tirelessly to produce healthy, nutritious meals that are appealing to young children.  Following the introduction of Universal free School Meals in 2014, all of the children at Marsden Infant and Nursery School (Reception to Year 2) will receive a Universal Free School Meal.  Therefore, we encourage all our children to eat a school dinner where possible.

Special dietary requirements can be catered for, however the catering team require confirmation from a dietician or doctor as to any specific requirements a child may have.

We do understand that some children may want to bring a packed lunch to school, so please inform the school office if your child would prefer this option.  However, upon starting school all children are encouraged to try our school meals and this forms part of their transition programme.

Free School Meals / Pupil Premium

Although all children at our school qualify for a Universal Infant Free School Meal, this should not deter parents in recept of certain benefits from applying to Kirklees Council for Free School Meals.  A successful application could also provide your child with free milk every day and financial support towards other extra-curricular activities.  This is because the Free School Meal benefit links to what is called the Pupil Premium.  Pupil Premium is vital additional funding to support eligible children.

The Pupil Premium funding is available to you if you are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, but are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your income is less than £16,190.
  • Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit.
