Cherry Class - Year 1


Here in Cherry class, we created these rules together and discussed how they will keep us safe and others around us safe. We discussed what it means to be a good listener, a respectful peer and to always try our best even if we find something tricky.
This class charter outlines the rules we follow in school and in class every day created by the children and teacher.

Our Weekly Timetable

Autumn 1 - 'All about me'
Import
ant things to note:
PE daysare Monday and Thursday.
PE kits are to be brought into school andstay in school throughout each half term. They can be taken home at the end of each half term.
Water bottles can be brought in and taken home at the end of the day.
Phonics homework is sent out every Friday and is expected to be back in for the following Thursday.
Homework is also sent out on a Friday every 2 weeks and is expected to be back on the given date.
Maths
In maths, we will follow the White rose scheme of learning and this will entail covering the following this term. It will cover place value, addition, subtraction and geometry. The small steps will guide this and make the lessons more interactive and practial.
We are alsorunning fluency bee alongside this which will be transisionting to Mastering Number.

Literacy
In literacy we are looking at the book ‘Funny bones’. This will support children in leraning basic sentence structures such as capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We will also look at nouns and adjectives and how these are used to make our writing more interesting.

Computing
In computing, we will look at technology and how it looks, how it works, the different parts it is made up of. We will look at different types of technology and how we can use it safely.
Geography
In Geography, we are looking at what landscape are in our local area. We are looking at Marsden for the local area as a focus of our learning. They will begin to get a grasp on what geography actually is and what this looks likes in everyday life.

Science
In science, we look at two areas of learning. The first being the seasons with a particular focus on Autumn and Winter as well as animals including humans.
We will look at different experiments to make these lessons engaging and practical. We will look at a variety of different animals including birds, mammals, fish, amphibians and reptiles.

PSHE
In PSHE, we are looking at relationships and how different people can experience similar or different things. We will look at who are important people to us as well as important people around us. We will look back on our own roles within these relationships.
RE
In RE, we will look at nature, religion and different beliefs. This will give the children opportunity to explore and become familiar with different faiths and beliefs and how they teach and guide them in different ways.
Physical Education
In PE, we will be looking at fundamentals alongside ball skills. Fundamentals include basic skills for basic sports and activities. Ball skills includes having ball control whether that is kicking or throwing. This is twice a week on of each lesson.
Autumn 2

PE days are Monday and Thursday.
Maths
In maths we follow the White rose scheme of work. This term we will be focussing on addition and subtraction alongside geomotry looking at 3D and 2D shapes. The small steps we follow will ensure that learning is interactive and practical as well as accesible for all.
Alongside the scheme we will also teach Mastering Number. This is to assist with fluency and the skill of subitising. We use concrete resources such as Reknreks to support with learning.
Literacy
In literacy we will focus on two texts. The first being ‘Traction Man’ and the second being ‘Toys in space’ this links to the overarching focus of ‘Toys’ for this term. We will be using our knowledge of our phonics sounds in our writing as well as ensuring we are using our capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We will go over nouns, verbs and adjectives and how these will ensure our writing is interesting and makes sense.
Computing
We will be looking at how we can use paint on computers as well as shapes and lines. We will learn how to carefully use and select tools on a computer to create a digital picture. The main focus will be to create a picture on the computer and compare how this differs to pictures on paper.
History
In history, we will be looking at toys and how we know they are special. As well as this we will look at the concept of old and new and the differences between then and now. We will learn about toys that people played with beyond living memory as well as games that were also played.
Science
In science, we will spend the first couple of weeks looking at the season winter and discuss the changes that winter brings. We will compare this to other seasons and how these differ. There will also be practical experiments to make this learning engaging.
We will continue with animals including humans learning all the different characteristics of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish.

PSHE
In PSHE, we will cover what being kind, unkind and bullying is and how we can show kindness and who we can talk to in difficult situations. We will discuss the school rules and why these are important as well as who are our special people alongside how different individuals have different special people.
Physical Education
In PE, we will look at athletics alongside sending and receiving. This will be twice a week alternating throughout the term.

Spring 1 - 'Once upon a time'
Important things to note:
PE days are Monday and Thursday.
Phonics homework is sent out every Friday and is expected to be back in for the following Thursday.
Homework is also sent out on a Friday every 2 weeks and is expected to be back on the given date.
Maths
In maths, we will follow the White rose scheme of learning and this will entail covering the following this term. It will cover addition and subtraction up to and including 20. As well as this we will cover place value up to 20. The children will understand what makes up these numbers and how this can come in different forms.
Alongside the scheme we will also teach Mastering Number. This will assist with fluency and the skill of subitising. We use concrete resources such as Reknreks and tens frames to support with learning.
Literacy
In literacy we will focus on two texts. We will begin looking at Jack and the Beanstalk. The second book will look at is Katie in London. We will focus on capital letters, full stops and finger spaces as well as going over nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will begin to look at conjunctions such as ‘and’. Our writing will be developed through dictated sentences alongside editing skills.

Computing
In computing, we will be exploring the key board and how we use this to create digital writing.

Geography
In geography, we will be looking at the UK. We will find it on various maps, focus on which countries make up the UK, and we will also find out some of the geographical and human features that are present within the UK.

Science
In science, we look at two areas of learning. The first being the seasons with a particular focus on Spring. The second focussing on plants and lifecycles.

PSHE
In PSHE, the topic will be: Keeping myself safe. This area will cover:
- How our feelings can keep us safe – including online safety
- Safe and unsafe touches
- Medicine Safety
- Getting help
RE
In RE, we will look at nature, religion and different beliefs. This will give the children opportunity to explore and become familiar with different faiths and beliefs and how they teach and guide them in different ways.
Physical Education
In PE, we will have two different focuses: fitness and dance. The lessons will build up the skills that are required in both areas of learning.
