Summer 1 New Life: Minibeasts

Our topic this half term is New Life: Minibeasts

Our Key Story is The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we will look at finding information from non-fiction books too.

We have plans to go to Tropical World, Friday 18th May to celebrate the topic, where they have an extensive range of butterflies along with many other various minibeasts!

We would appreciate any parent volunteers for this trip please.  If you would like to volunteer please see a member of the Reception Team.

PE

This half term PE is Thursday afternoons. Project Sport are teaching the children Dance.

Learning Logs and Homework Books

Please encourage your child to place the orange and brown books in the right box on arrival to school. To support their independence children should also be encouraged to put their coats on their pegs and book bags in their drawers.

Changes in the weather.

With the weather in Marsden being so fickle, please ensure your child has clothing for any eventuality, cold spells, hot sunny spells and rain.

Spring 1 Fairytales and Fantasy

Our topic this half term is Fairytales and Fantasy.

Our key stories are Peter Pan and Aladdin.  

As a special treat the whole school will watch a performance of Peter Pan, by M&M Production  on 31st January.

Cold Weather Clothing

As the outdoor area is open most of the day for children to access, please ensure you send your child with appropriate clothing to keep them warm in the cold weather. Hats, scarves, gloves and suitable coats, trousers and or tights for the girls as well.  Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled.

P.E

 This half term PE is on a Thursday afternoon and the children will be developing thier skills in gymnasitcs with an external sports coach from Project Sport.

Please ensure the children have a full kit, labelled with their names (T-shirt, shorts and pumps) in school at all times.

If your child does not have a P.E. kit they will be unable to talk part in the lessons.

If your child has their ears pierced please ensure that these are removed on the Thursday morning before coming to school.

Reception Balance ability- Sports Premium

Every Thursday morning this half term the reception children are having lessons on balance bikes. They are working on developing their balancing skills using balance bikes and when ready bikes. 

Learning Logs

Learning logs are sent home every Friday, detailing what your child has been learning about over the past week. Please ensure that your child places their learning log in the box labelled 'Learning Logs' every Monday morning so that teachers know where to find it if they need to write any important information inside it.

Homework

Homework is sent out on a Friday and is collected back in every fortnight on the Wednesday. Please ensure that this is placed in the box by Wednesday morning so that we have time to look at their super work before sending it back home again with a new label inside.

We will sometimes send home phonics activities.  These do not have to be returned to school they are just for fun and to practise and consolidate their learning.

Library

Reception will be attending the library from this half term. Once every half term on a Friday afternoon and sessions are based around our topic.  Children are given the opportunity to explore the books and choose books to take back to the classroom to enjoy.

Reception School Councillors

It is now time for Reception to join the School Council.  Reception will bote for one councillor from each class. If your child would like to be a school councillor they need to make a poster which includes their name, class, photo/picture of themselves and a drawing or writing about what they would do as a councillor. Closing date for posters is Friday 26th January. Children will then vote for their class councillor on Monday 29th January.

This half term our topic is Woodland Wonder. Within this topic we will be looking at forests and learning about the woodland creatures that live inside them. We will then extend this to looking at rainforests and the animals that we might find creeeping through the jungle. The children will look at the story of Percy the Park Keeper and will have Percy's Cottage as their role play.

The children will also be looking at the story of We're Going on a Bear Hunt. They will practise retelling and sequencing the story as well as going on their very own bear hunt down to tunnel end! The children will also be able to practise re-enacting the story within the classroom where they will have a cave as their role play.
